Courage isn't the absence of fear

Nelson Mandela once said, "Courage isn't the absence of fear, but the triumph over it." Courage is feeling the fear, the doubt, and the insecurity, and deciding that something else is more important.

I feel fear more times than I can remember. I feel it for each act, for each step, but I hide it and leave it behind a dark mask. A brave person is not someone who is never frightened, but the person who fights against that fear.

There are few experiences that are as terrifying as facing a life-threatening illness. You might find yourself in a heartbreaking situation surrounded by fear and anxiety. You might feel weak, alone, and perplexed. However, you never know what life has in store for you, whether it is a gift or a curse, it is your destiny. One day you are living a normal life, and the next day you might receive unexpected news: facing a serious disease, experiencing the loss of someone you love, or even facing the failure of a project you expected to succeed. Hence, life is unpredictable, but it is precious because every moment matters.

Therefore, these hard moments can seem scary and overwhelming, but they also reveal the strength, resilience, and courage hidden behind our weakness. Thus, courage is indeed a choice to act. It is both the will and the hope to struggle through difficult situations, take risks, and stand up for our beliefs and values. Even though it might seem challenging, courage is the ability to become a better version of ourselves despite the fear.

This bravery can manifest in various forms:

Moral Courage: Standing up for rights, justice, and ethics.

Phisical Courage: Facing physical danger.

Emotional Courage: Being vulnerable about one's feelings

Intellectual Courage: Having the courage to think freely and speak your mind, no matter what.

So, fear can actually be a meaningful source of personal growth that we shouldn't run from. Through courage, we learn how to wisely solve problems and develop our critical thinking. Moreover, it teaches us adaptability and the value of vulnerability.

And last but not least, for those who doubt their own courage: keep going. Keep in mind that many outstanding figures once faced deep fear and overcame it. Their stories prove that strength appears even in the most demanding moments. Take J.K. Rowling, for instance—the famous author of the Harry Potter series who struggled with poverty and depression—or Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith.

Even I have experienced these challenges myself, and it taught me just how much courage helps us move forward. So keep going, believe in God, and never give up.
