Over Seventy Years of Women's Fashion

It is amazing to see how much the way people dress changes through time, the most popular Fashions are classic, they can stand the test of time and hardly ever go out of style only experiencing minor changes to keep up the trends.


Fashion trends change so fast that sometimes it's hard to keep up.

Looking at old fashioned Trends can tell you a little bit of history from that time seeing what people wore can help you imagine what the place was like 30 40 or even 100 years ago here is how fashion has changed over the past Century;


The 1920s was an exciting time in the US, the world World War 1 has just ended and women's rights were changing overall people were feeling good. It is often remembered as the age of Blitz Jazz and glamorous, but it was also marked by simplicity and practicality. Women wanted more minimalistic and comfortable clothing which meant no more corsets, crinolines, bustle skirts and other pieces characteristics of the Victorian era. The new fashion trend was the flapper look, a very boyish and simple look characterized by a dropped waste, hemlines. Sportswear became an even more acceptable to wear for women; Coco Chanel is regarded as the main designer to revolutionize women's sportswear.


The 1930s, women's design gradually evolved from the boyish style of the previous decade to the feminine silhouette of the early 30s. One of the most significant trends was the bias cut which allows the fabric to flow over the body.


The 1940s, with the beginning of World War II it's led the fashion to become practical with uniforms for men and women who served during the war and utility clothing for the other citizens the common look was padded shoulders, cinched waist, and hemlines below the knee.

After the war Christian Dior introduced the iconic New Look which was much ahead of its time with the cinched in waist and embodied full skirt. The fashion world has never seen such designs before but Dior wanted to celebrate women's Beauty and feminity.


The 1950s, women had the desire to dress up and look stylish so this decade was characterized by feminine and elegant Silhouettes, with cinched waistes and full dresses and skirts. The Dior new look remained popular however others emerged like Coco Chanel's is Slim Look with boxy jackets and straight skirts.


The 1960s, the first revolutionary design was the mini skirt, bright colors begin replacing the sober palet of the previous decades. It was the era of futuristic fashion inspired by space travel and Technology like Moon boots. There were also looks inspired from pop art like egg cartoon dress, cosmocorps, bubble dress... by the late 1960s fashion begin swimming towards the hippie aesthetic which was a way of rejecting mainstream fashion.


The 1970s, also known as the hippie style decade but later left room for the glamorous look "the Disco era". Sportswear made once again it's entry into women's fashion.


The 1980s, women begin to work in occupy high level position they were in need of new wardrobe that's how jackets with padded shoulders, bold accessories and high heels made their entry, they were also known as power suits.


The 1990s, fashion moved toward a more casual style of dressing and minimalism ,the slip dress was the biggest fashion trend.


The 2000s, the predominant look of the decade were the Bohemian look that replaced the grunge look of the 90s (vintage and handmade clothing was in Vogue), hip hop, Streetwear, emo... These different subcultures of the 2000s influenced fashion in different ways.
